Islam & Social Justice

The Office for Interfaith & Community Alliances is working on developing a framework for social justice in Islam. We are soliciting input from both scholars and community advocates in this endeavor. We are inspired by the recent resurgence of interest in the maqasid al-shariah, or the study of the foundational goals of Islamic law, and the visionary perspectives that scholarship in this area offers. Promoting a collective definition of social justice in Islam promises to unify and focus American Muslims in our civic engagement. Ultimately we aspire to create a poster on social justice in Islam that will be distributed to masjids, community centers, and student associations nationwide.
